Skilled Independent / Sponsored Visas
This group of visas fall under the Skills Select scheme. As the name hints at, this scheme allows for the selection of certain sets of skilled people, who are needed within Australia.
Before you apply for a visa you have to obtain a positive skills assessment by the relevant Australian skills assessing authority. Your nominated occupation, which fits your skills and qualifications, must be on the list of approved occupations (Skilled Occupations List) for migration to Australia, which is adjusted by the Government from time to time. Australia does take into account for the need for certain skill sets in specific states. This means that some states may make it easier for applicants of certain occupations to move into that particular state.
This group of visas contains both temporary and permanent residence visas. To be granted this category visa you must pass what is called the Points Test. Points are allocated for qualifications, age, English language ability, work experience, your spouse's skills. Extra points are given to those applicants who have family in Australia, who have Australian qualifications or those with skills in demand.
